Karun Mungai is a Kenyan R&B Singer/Songwriter with an eclectic ear and a fresh sound this side of the continent. Karun’s latest releases ‘Make Believe’, ‘High’, ‘Fools Paradise’ and ‘Roses’ ft Ukweli made waves with the latter gaining nearly 500,000 streaming plays. Karun is no newcomer to the Pan-African music industry.
In its 5th year, Startup Grind Nairobi hosts meetups featuring local founders, artists, leaders, educators and innovators who share their wins and lessons learned on the road to building great businesses. Previously featured speakers include Gina Din-Kariuki, Muthoni the Drummer Queen, Juliani, Marek Fuchs, June Gachui, Tedd Josiah, Peter Nduati, Isis Nyong’o, Ory Okolloh, Waceke Nduati and many others.
The very first edition of Startup Grind Nairobi was held in April 2014 in partnership with Strathmore Business School. Over the years, Startup Grind Nairobi has partnered with Google Kenya, The iHub, Creatives Garage, Metta, Nexus CoWork and interacted with up to 4000 entrepreneurs, creatives and startups.
The July 2019 event featuring Karun promises to be educative, inspiring and memorable. As Startup Grind Nairobi founder, Betty Mutimba puts it “Our goal for Startup Grind Nairobi is a platform for entrepreneurs and creatives to share knowledge, inspire each other and form valuable friendships. Karun is a young artist well on her way to building a music empire. We are excited to go on this journey with her and to learn from her experiences so far!”
In Karun’s words, “I’m excited to have an intimate space where I can share some things I’ve learned about the music business, with a special focus on the renaissance that’s happening in the Kenyan industry right now. I’m looking forward to shedding some light on my new process, and sharing a bit of what I’ve been working on.”
Startup Grind Nairobi has partnered with The Foundry as hosts for 2019 events. The Foundry is a network of premiere office space and co-working community designed to support business growth. “With 3 locations in Nairobi, our spaces focus on design plus function so that every element of the users environment promotes creativity, collaboration and connections. We are especially passionate about supporting the creative economy in Kenya, believing that it is the best way to design sustainable solutions for our society’s issues. Thus we are happy to work with Startup Grind Nairobi, who hold relevant events such as these.”
